Aspen car service, run by people who live here
Wildpath Transportation is a private car service based in the Roaring Fork Valley. We are not a national booking platform that dispatches whoever is closest. Our drivers are our drivers, every vehicle in the fleet is all-wheel drive, and the person who answers the phone knows the road you are asking about.
We run Aspen and Snowmass year round: airport transfers, ski days, weddings, corporate groups, restaurant and nightlife runs, and the long hauls down valley to Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. One flat quoted price, one driver, door to door.
Car service, limo service, or taxi: what you actually want in Aspen
People search for all three and usually mean the same thing, so it is worth drawing the line.
- A taxi is hailed or called for right now and priced by the meter. Fine for a short hop in town. In Aspen, availability at 11pm on a Saturday or during a storm is a real gamble.
- An Aspen limo service traditionally means a stretch vehicle. Almost nobody actually wants one here. Mountain roads, gated driveways and snow make a stretch limo the wrong tool, which is why the valley runs on SUVs and Sprinter vans instead.
- A private car service is reserved in advance, assigned to you, and priced as a quote you agree to before the trip. The driver is yours for the run. That is what we do.
If you searched for a limo and what you really need is a clean AWD Suburban with a chauffeur who knows where the service entrance at your hotel is, that is a car service, and you are in the right place.
Getting to Aspen: three airports, three different trips
Where you fly in changes the whole plan, and the cheapest flight is often not the cheapest trip.
Aspen/Pitkin County (ASE) is four miles from downtown, so the ground leg is about ten minutes. It is also one of the most weather-sensitive commercial airports in the country. Flights divert to Grand Junction, Eagle or back to Denver with little warning, and when that happens every operator in the valley is fielding the same calls at once.
Eagle County (EGE) is roughly 70 miles out, about 90 minutes to Aspen, and it is the routing most travelers overlook. Bigger aircraft, far fewer cancellations, and a drive that is straightforward in almost any weather.
Denver International (DEN) is 160 miles and about four hours door to door, longer in winter or on a Sunday when I-70 is full of returning skiers. For two or more people it frequently beats connecting on the regional flight once you count the fare, the bags and the ground transport you still need at this end.
Tell us your flight number when you book and we track the tail number rather than the schedule. If you land early the driver is already there. If you sit on the tarmac for two hours, nobody is charging you for it.
Where you are staying matters more than you think
Aspen is small but it is not flat. A driver who knows the town saves you real time and irritation.
Downtown properties around the core mean a short walk to Ajax and a loading situation that changes depending on the season and the street. Red Mountain and Starwood are steep private drives where the difference between an AWD vehicle and a rental sedan in January is the difference between arriving and not. Snowmass Village and Base Village are a 20 minute run from Aspen proper, and a Snowmass car service booking is a different pickup point than an Aspen one even though the rate structure is the same. Woody Creek, Old Snowmass, Basalt and Carbondale are all on our regular runs.
Give us the address when you book, not just the town. We would rather know about the gate code and the last quarter mile of dirt road in advance.
In summer there is a second way in: Independence Pass crosses the Continental Divide at 12,095 feet and cuts real time off the drive from Denver. It is closed from roughly early November until late May, it bans vehicles over 35 feet, and we treat it as a feature of the trip rather than a shortcut — if you have a flight to catch we take the interstate. Our guide covers the open dates and when we actually use it.
Winter driving, honestly
Aspen sits at 7,900 feet and the roads in are mountain passes. Colorado enforces a Traction Law during storms: vehicles need snow tires, all-wheel drive or chains, and rental cars often do not qualify. Drivers get turned around or fined for blocking the interstate.
Every vehicle we run is all-wheel drive and set up for winter before the season starts, and our drivers work this corridor in storms as routine rather than as an emergency. That is the actual argument for booking a chauffeur in February instead of driving yourself. Not comfort. The fact that the person at the wheel has done it hundreds of times.
Groups, gear and families
A Mercedes Sprinter seats up to 14 with room for skis, which is cheaper per person than two SUVs and considerably less stressful than three rental cars trying to meet at a tunnel. Luxury SUVs handle couples, small families and executive pickups. We can fit car seats if you tell us ages when you book, and for ski groups we build gear loading into the schedule instead of discovering it at the curb.
For corporate groups and weddings we assign one point of contact who holds the whole picture: the manifest, the arrival windows and the vehicle assignments. When a flight slips 90 minutes, that person re-sequences the fleet rather than calling you to ask what to do.
Booking an Aspen car service
Holiday weeks fill first. Christmas, New Year, Presidents Day and the X Games window book out weeks ahead, and summer weekends around Food & Wine and the Ideas Festival do the same. Off-peak, a few days is usually enough, and we take same-day calls when we have a vehicle free.
Call or text (720) 967-9956 and you will reach a person, not a queue. Tell us the date, the pickup address, where you are going and how many people and bags, and we will come back with a flat price.
More on getting to and from Aspen
Every route we run into the Roaring Fork Valley, and the guides behind them:
- Denver to Aspen — the four-hour run from DIA through Glenwood Canyon
- Aspen to Denver — the return leg, and how early you actually need to leave
- Eagle Airport (EGE) to Aspen — the shorter way in, and when it beats flying to ASE
- Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) — fifteen minutes from downtown when the weather cooperates
- Glenwood Springs to Aspen — up Highway 82 through Carbondale and Basalt
- Grand Junction to Aspen — the western approach
- Aspen to Vail — over or around, depending on the season
- Snowmass Village — our home mountain
Travelling for a reason? Winter and ski transportation covers gear, traction law and storm days. Event transportation covers weddings, corporate groups and multi-vehicle movements. And meet the fleet if you want to see what actually shows up.
Getting to and from Aspen
Almost every Aspen job we run is a transfer at one end or the other. These are the routes we cover most, each with real timings, seasonal notes and vehicle guidance:
- Denver to Aspen — DEN to the Roaring Fork Valley year round, roughly four hours through Glenwood Canyon.
- Aspen to Denver — the return leg, and the one with a flight attached. Winter departures leave five hours before wheels-up.
- Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) — commercial and private aviation pickups, ten minutes from downtown.
- Eagle County Airport (EGE) to Aspen — about 70 miles, and the usual fallback when ASE closes for weather.
- Aspen to Vail — resort to resort, a little under two hours.
- Grand Junction to Aspen — the western approach, up the Colorado River and through Glenwood Canyon.
- Breckenridge to Aspen — Summit County across to the Roaring Fork Valley.
In summer the short way in is Independence Pass, closed roughly half the year and never our choice when a flight is involved. In winter, Colorado’s traction law governs what can legally be on Highway 82 — worth understanding before you book any operator.
Leaving Aspen for a flight
Outbound timing is the question travelers get wrong most often. Denver International Airport advises arriving at least two hours before boarding rather than two hours before departure, and boarding begins thirty to forty minutes ahead of the printed time, so a Denver flight from Aspen is a six-hour-and-forty-five-minute door-to-terminal trip in summer and an eight-hour trip between November and April. Eagle County needs just under four hours; Aspen/Pitkin County about two and a quarter. Departure times for every hour of the day are in our guide to how early to leave Aspen for a flight.
